In some ways, The Book of Acts is the Fifth Gospel.  Luke, the historian, wrote his first volume “about all that Jesus began to do and teach…”  Now he goes on to record what Jesus Christ continued to do and teach.  God, by His Spirit, in the Church is unleashing the Good News on the world, the spreading flame, “the incendiary fellowship” (Elton Trueblood).  What seems to begin as an insignificant disturbance in a remote place, a shoot out of parched ground, will eventually challenge the Empire and cover the world with grace and truth.  It’s an extremely colorful and inviting picture of the early Church in mission.
