Mark 11:9 "Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;'"

A Reflection Before the Service

  • When fishes flew and forests walked
    And figs grew upon thorn,
    Some moment when the moon was blood
    Then surely I was born;

    With monstrous head and sickening cry
    And ears like errant wings,
    The devil’s walking parody
    On all four-footed things.

    The tattered outlaw of the earth,
    Of ancient crooked will;
    Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
    I keep my secret still.

    Fools! For I also had my hour;
    One far fierce hour and sweet:
    There was a shout about my ears.
    And palms before my feet.

    – G.K. Chesterton, “The Donkey”

    My baby needs a shepherd
    She´s lost out on the hill
    Too late I tried to call her
    When the night was cold and still
    And I tell myself I´ll find her
    But I know I never will
    My baby needs a shepherd
    She´s lost out on the hill

    Track 6 from the 2000 album, Red Dirt Girl

The Call to Worship

  • Mark 11:7-10; Matthew 21:15-16

    They brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it. And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:

    "Hosanna!

    BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD;

    Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;

    Hosanna in the highest!"

    But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became indignant and said to Him," Do You hear what these children are saying?" And Jesus said to them,"Yes; have you never read,'
