"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." 1 John 3:1

A Reflection Before the Service

  • “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” is the best any of us can do really, but thank God it is enough.

    - Frederick Buechner

If you’re falling off a cliff, strong faith in a weak branch is fatally inferior to weak faith in a strong branch. Salvation is not finally based on the strength of your faith, but on the object of your faith.

    - Tim Keller

Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace, whereby we receive and rest upon him alone for salvation, as he is offered to us in the gospel.

    - Westminster Shorter Catechism

The Call to Worship

  • The Call to Worship: The First Letter of St. John (3.1-3; ESV)

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
