Bulletin Thanksgiving Eve 2024

"What mighty praise belongs to You, O God, for Your acts of love and faithfulness toward us!" Psalm 65:1ff

A Reflection Before the Service

  • “I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”

     G.K. Chesterton

“In normal life we hardly realize how much more we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude. It is so easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements compared with what we owe to the help of others.”

     Dietrich Bonhoeffer,

    Letters and Papers from Prison

“When we learn to read the story of Jesus and see it as the story of the love of God, doing for us what we could not do for ourselves--that insight produces, again and again, a sense of astonished gratitude which is very near the heart of authentic Christian experience.”

     N.T. Wright

The Call to Worship

  • The world is filled with the glory of God, and we say,
    Thank you!
The hills and valleys are filled with color, and we say,
    Thank you!
The vines and trees are filled with fruit, and we say,
    Thank you!
Our tables are overflowing with food, and we say,
    Thank you!
Our life is filled with love of family and friends, and we say,
    Thank you!
We fill this house of God with our voices, saying,
    Thank you!
May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts
be acceptable to you, O God,

as we enter into this service of thanksgiving and praise.
