Reflection Before The Service
It's not like I let people do things for me, so I guess you can call me a control freak, or you can call me passionate... I'm not a passive person by any stretch of the imagination.
— Courteney Cox, “A Revealing Sit-down with Courteney
Cox” (USA Today, Ann Oldenburg, October 9, 2003)
Glinda: you ready now?
Dorothy: Say goodbye, Toto.... Yes, I'm ready now.
Glinda: Close your eyes......and tap your heels together three times......and think to yourself: "There's no place like home. There's no place like home." There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home.
— Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz (1939; Screenwriters: Noel
Langley, Florence Ryerson, Edgar Allan Woolf)
You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Oh my shame
You know I believe it
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
— Paul Hewson, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen, Dave Evans, " I Still Haven’t Found What I’m looking For ” from the 1987 U2 album, The Joshua Tree
When the symptoms of your illness frighten you or chemotherapy, makes you nauseous, pray and tell Him how you really feel. Admit that you are desperate. Acknowledge the truth if your misplaced confidence has been in yourself and not in Him. But shift your trust from yourself to God. He’s a lot bigger than you are! When you are feeling well, it’s easy to say, “I confidently believe that God will help me.” But what you really mean is, “I can handle my own affairs with a bit of assist from God.” So, give up presumptuous self -reliance. Discover the power of a living faith placed in a mighty God!
— C. John Miller, “Shift Your Trust from Yourself to God ”

The Call To Worship
The Call To Worship
Psalm 147.12ff
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
He has blessed your sons within you.
He makes peace in your borders;
He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat.
He sends forth His command to the earth;
His word runs very swiftly.
He gives snow like wool;
He scatters the frost like ashes.
He casts forth His ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His cold?
He sends forth His word and melts them;
He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow.
He declares His words to Jacob,
His statutes and His ordinances to Israel.
He has not dealt thus with any nation;
And as for His ordinances, they have not known them.
Praise the LORD!
