The Child-King

menu_book 2 Kings 11:12-21

This is a story from ancient Israel (about 800 BC). It’s included in the Bible to help us see patterns that combine to point us to the Child King born in Bethlehem, born to save the world.

It also teaches us the inadequacy of peer-pressure and accountability. Accountability has its place, but when that’s all there is, fear of exclusion, morality/spirituality that depends on external control and obligation without liberating the heart and transforming the motives is deceit.

This transformation is at the heart of Christianity – the Christ-Child would grow up to take us beyond religion, to make us, like Him, the free children of God.
