Reflection Before The Service

Our ambition and aspiration will supremely be for our own family and our church members to be saved through faith in the gospel. Far more important than school grades or university or careers, the thing we will pray for and work towards is our children and grandchildren becoming Christians. We will aspire to give them not just music lessons but the gospel. We will aspire to serve in our church ministry to children and youth in any way we can, perhaps leading or assisting in a church scripture class, or financing children’s workers... Above all we will make the faith of our children and grandchildren, and the children of our church family, the focus of our sustained and regular prayer commitment.

— Richard Coekin, Faith for Life: Inspiration from
the Ordinary Heroes of Hebrews 11(2021; p. 114)

True faith is not only a knowledge and conviction that everything God reveals in his word is true; it is also a deep --rooted assurance, created in me by the Holy Spirit through the gospel, that, out of sheer grace earned for us by Christ, not only others, but I too, have had my sins forgiven, have been made forever right with God, and have been granted salvation.

— The Heidelberg Catechism(1563, A. 21)

The Call To Worship

Psalm 118 (vv.19 -24)

Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the LORD.
This is the gate of the LORD;
The righteous will enter through it.
I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered me,
And You have become my salvation.
The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.
This is the LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day which the LORD has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
