The Buyers and the Sellers

Today we come to a third character in the cast, or a third CLASS of character and that is the people, the “hoi polloi” – that’s the Greek phrase for the masses or the public. They have a voice in the four accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are many but often they speak as one, like a separate character. In this scene “they”, “hoi polloi”, the masses have come to Jerusalem to take part in one of the great Jewish feast days, the day of Passover…

…In this scene there’s a clue to the one big idea of the Bible – the uniqueness of God as demonstrated in His grace and mercy – the glory of God as seen in His “darling attribute” GRACE. If you’re trying to “get your head around” the Bible, trying to see what IT and what Christianity IS – this is like a neon arrow.
